“It’s like trying to turn a 747 on a dime.”

Mankato Solstice Executive Director Val Curtis has been scrambling after the City of Mankato announced the closure of Land of Memories Park due to flooding, but that effort paid off and this weekend’s music festival will go on with a change of venue. It will be held Friday night and Saturday at The Hub Food Truck Park in Old Town.

“I think we’re going to have the full-bore thing,” Curtis said, “We even figured out how to do some urban hipster camping.” There are 12 or 13 RV spots available in the Hubbard Mill parking lot, near the lot where the music has moved. In addition, she said those that made plans to tent camp this weekend will also have an option because, “We got permission from the old Embers piece of land there by the bridge and we’re going to put up a little urban tent city. Yeah, we’re kind of taking over Old Town.”

Curtis believes the change of pace with the move to Old Town this year will work well and said, “It’s not Land of Memories, let’s face it, it’s just not. But in a pinch I think this is going to be a kind of a thing – it’s going to be a cool thing.”

She said it could not have been pulled together smoothly without the support of many people and organizations and, “I want to thank all of the sponsors and everybody that’s pulling together in Old Town to help us pull this off and we are just gonna rock Old Town.”
