Eagle Lake has hired its third full-time officer as the city continues to grow.
Officials approved the move this week to hire Officer Dustin Jensen for the full-time role. Jensen has been with Department since 2014 and has been serving as a part-time officer to this point.
City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland says with growth, comes growing pains.
“We want to make sure that our community is safe and that we keep our crime rate low. So we feel it’s important to bring on a third full-time police officer. Just to make sure we can provide a safe community for residents.”
While there aren’t any concerns right now with a low crime rate, Bromeland says it’s hard to determine how much more the community will grow.
“We’re just all moving in the right direction as far as making sure that we’re providing services that can meet the demands of a growing community.”
Eagle Lake currently has an estimated population of 2,992.
Census Bureau data from 2015 reported the City was the 2nd fastest growing community in the state, with a 5.5-percent increase in population from 2014 to 2015.
