Now that the dust has cleared on the 2019 legislative session–which many have called a “draw,” what might the implications be for the next election? Hamline University political expert David Schultz says…

“The governor’s a little bit weaker as a result perhaps, he didn’t scare Republicans, he didn’t get what he wanted this year, next year’s an election year, it’s going to be harder to get some of your things such as a gas tax because that’s going to get us closer to an election.”

On the other hand, Schultz says, Governor Walz and Democrats may be able to continue an appeal to voters in suburban areas where Democrats won House seats from Republicans last year.
