There’s been a lot of build-up in recent days to tomorrow’s inauguration in the wake of the recent siege at the U-S Capitol building and with President Donald Trump saying he will not be a part of the inauguration ceremony. But Carleton College political scientist Steven Schier says in the long term…

“We have to keep in mind that politics moves very quickly now given technology, and information, and communication and so the events of this inaugurations probably won’t have big long-term implications for the next election or the next presidential election.”

Schier says the last time a president skipped his successor’s inauguration was when Andrew Johnson did not attend the ceremony of Ulysses S. Grant in 1869.
