Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm is echoing Governor Tim Walz’s request to the Minnesota Legislature to pass measures she says are necessary to protect health care capacity during the pandemic surge — including regulatory changes for hospitals and nursing homes:

“We need the legislature to work with us to address these issues, but frankly that’s not all.   We need all Minnesotans to do their part too.  The best thing we all can do to help preserve this critical hospital and health care capacity is to reduce the amount of disease transmission.”

But a big sticking point is the governor also requesting lawmakers approve COVID vaccination and testing requirements for teachers, school staff, and workers in long term care facilities — something Senate Republicans seem unwilling to consider.  G-O-P leaders haven’t been reachable for comment.
