Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says about Governor Tim Walz’s 35-million-dollar request to help law enforcement prepare for the upcoming Floyd officer trials — “We are not going to bail out Minneapolis city council after they have made cuts to the public safety budget… Instead, we will propose an alternative later this week to make sure… law enforcement can respond, and without taking general fund dollars away from education, healthcare, or transportation.” Governor Walz contends the 35 million dollars is needed immediately:

“Unlike the end of May in a spontaneous situation, this is not spontaneous, and we can anticipate. We will hope for the best, but we will prepare for the worst.”

Republicans continue criticizing what they say was Democrats’ slow response to quell last summer’s riots.
