The Committee Against Domestic Abuse and the Greater Mankato Area United Way are partnering to host a listening session next week on the topic of preventing sexual violence.
It will be led by the Minnesota Men and Masculine Folks project, and statewide coordinator Pheng Thao said the project began about a year ago in the Twin Cities and is looking to expand its outreach to Greater Minnesota. “This is sort of like our very first initial step at looking at what sexual violence looks like in different communities,” he explained.
Thao said their focus isn’t on presenting solutions to the problem but gathering thoughts from others because, “We don’t know what the solutions are but we know that people that live in the community may have some potential strategies and ides about how to prevent sexual violence in their communities.”
Men from across the Greater Mankato area are encouraged to get involved and Thao said they are looking for input from, “Local groups or individual men who are interested and who are committed and who are passionate about wanting to end violence in their community, particularly around domestic violence, domestic violence, sex trafficking.”
The discussion takes place on Tuesday at Shared Spaces on South 2nd Street in Mankato from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
