A 21-year-old Minneapolis woman is facing six felony theft by forgery charges, after Mankato Police say she stole a check book in February and wrote more than $400 in bad checks to several area Kwik Trip stores.

Investigators identified Alya Yerkes by reviewing surveillance video taken during the transactions. The victim told police that she had never met Yerkes and did not give her permission to write checks on her account.

Because Yerkes has several previous convictions for check forgeries in the past five years, the criminal complain shows that the requested charges have been upgraded to felonies. Court documents show that Yerkes also has open felony check forgery cases in Douglas and Pope Counties.

Yerkes is currently being held in the Douglas County jail, so a warrant has been requested on the Blue Earth County charges.
