Mankato Police say there has been a break in the case of counterfeit cash that has been circulating in the city and beyond.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel.

Commander Dan Schisel said, “There were two people arrested, Jacob John Fredericks, age 35 of Mankato, and Nicole Marie Hanson, age 32 of Mankato. There was material there that was recovered and there are multiple charges pending, including the manufacturing of counterfeit bills.”

Schisel said the investigation led to a search warrant at their home, after there were, “Several reports of counterfeit bills in the Mankato area and outside. There were some leads that were gathered throughout different counterfeit bills being reported, and one of those or a couple of those leads led to the execution of a search warrant at 40 Wood Drive.”

The investigation is ongoing, including into whether others may have been involved in the counterfeiting. Schisel said, “Fairmont had some counterfeit bills there as well, so there are other agencies that we are working with to try to determine that.”

Anyone who believes they have counterfeit currency is asked to call 9-1-1.
