The University of Minnesota has named their newest apple. Officials from the university’s Department of Horticultural Science say the mix between Honeycrisp and Liberty apples will now be known as the Triumph apple. Graduate student Stephen Brockman picked the name after almost 500 suggestions were sent in, saying the apple is a triumph of fruit cultivation. In a few years, Triumph trees and apples will be sold to consumers, orchards, and farmer’s markets. U of M has developed several well-known apple varieties over the years.
