More details are emerging after a North Mankato woman was found dead on April 12th due to a drug overdose.
Authorities say the 29-year old female victim was found in her apartment at 248 Nicollet Avenue and the dangerous drug Fentanyl was found in her system. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled the death an overdose.
Agents say an investigation into the source of the drug led them to 38-year old Otis Dear of Mankato. Dear was arrested Friday in connection with the incident and is facing a charge of 3rd Degree Homicide. He is currently behind bars in Nicollet County.
North Mankato Police Lt. Nicole Adams tells KTOE News that to this point the opioid epidemic has not spread to the Mankato Metro, but it maybe a matter of time.
“Duluth, Rochester, it seems like it’s all over. For some reason, meth has still been the most popular in our area. I’ve talked to the Drug Task Force, we don’t know why that is. But unfortunately, I think that that drug may be at some point, I’m sure, making its way here.”
The Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are continuing to investigate the incident.
