A man that took police on a high-speed through the North Mankato and Judson areas on Wednesday, reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour, was later shot to death by police.
According to scanner audio, the chase started around 11:30 a.m. in Nicollet County and the pursuit went through Judson toward Nicollet, and continued near the North Links Golf Course and down the Judson Bottom Road near North Mankato before turning back to Judson.
Officials shut down the chase after nearly an hour for safety reasons. Nicollet County Sheriff Dave Lang says the vehicle the suspect was driving was reported stolen out of New Ulm. He added that the incident started after an attempted theft at a convenience store near Lafayette.
About 30 minutes later the vehicle was seen in St. James and another pursuit began. After the driver got stuck in a snow bank, police say he ran into a convenience store and into an office inside. Police tasered him multiple times before one officer fired a shot. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
