A 35-year-old Vernon Center man is facing assault and property damage charges after what Minnesota State Patrol says was a road rage incident in mid-August.
The victim told troopers that he may have unintentionally cut off another driver when trying to get into the left turn lane on Highway 169 to exit onto County Road 169.
When the man stopped to make the turn he says Alfredo Martinez got out of his pickup and approached the truck, punched him in the face through the open driver’s side window, and choked him before kicking the back of the victim’s vehicle.
The criminal complaint shows the victim sought medical treatment and was diagnosed with a neck injury and a black eye.
In a police interview, Martinez told investigators that he was upset because he had to slam on his brakes to avoid a crash and his daughter was in the truck with him. Martinez said he showed the victim his middle finger and swore at him but denied committing the assault.
