Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it no longer comes as a surprise when a concert or award show is postponed or canceled. Fans of artists like Billie Eilish and BTS will have to wait a little bit longer than expected before they get to see their favorites perform in-person. Luckily, music fans won’t have to wait any extra time for the 2020 VMAs. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo officially announced today, June 29th, that the award show will take place on August 30th at the Barclays Center.
While the award show is still going to take place, it is not completely clear what it may look like. Gov. Cuomo stated that while the awards will be taking place at the Brooklyn arena, that they will be following “all safety guidance, including limited or no audience” (Source, Billboard). The BET awards faced a similar task for their 20th annual show on June 28th. For their show, artists like Beyoncé and Lil Wayne sent in prerecorded messages and performances while actress and comedian Amanda Seales hosted from her home with a green screen. Regardless of how the VMAs end up looking, it sure is exciting that they will still be taking place!
