Governor Walz and Senate Republicans remain at odds over extending a health care provider tax. Department of Human Services Commissioner Tony Lourey says with just weeks remaining in the session…

“We can’t go forward and begin negotiating with this big question mark is this funding stream going to continue or not it needs to continue, we need to understand that and get over this hurdle.”

But Senator Michelle Benson says the governor’s public “OneCare” health proposal is linked with the provider tax and hospitals should be asking…

“What OneCare does to the hospitals in the state of Minnesota, can they survive on the Medicare reimbursement rate that are in OneCare.”

The provider tax, which helps cover costs for low-income families, is due to expire at the end of the year.
