Governor Tim Walz says his 150-million-dollar request for special summer learning programs should be part of a business and individual COVID tax relief package that Democrats and Republicans are trying to agree on:
“To rush through and throw a tax cut out there and then say, well, if there’s a little bit extra left over, then we’ll take care of schools — I don’t really want to do it that way. So I just ask ’em, why don’t you put it together?”
The Republican-controlled Senate passed a bill yesterday (Thurs) that would exempt businesses from paying state tax on forgivable COVID loans they received from the federal Paycheck Protection Program. A portion of individuals’ COVID unemployment benefits would also *not* be subject to state income tax — but House Democrats say it should be the full amount.
