A Waseca man is facing charges after allegedly kicking a Mankato Police Officer on Sunday morning.

The criminal complaint states that 42-year old David Charles Janus was very intoxicated and was removed from a bar in the downtown entertainment district shortly after 2 a.m. due to a disturbance. Authorities say Janus initially refused to comply, but Officers were later able to handcuff the suspect. 

Mankato Police report that as they neared the squad vehicle, Janus allegedly kicked three times and struck an officer in the leg causing pain. The complaint says the man was then taken to the ground to avoid further assaults.

Janus is charged with Felony 4th Degree Assault of a Peace Officer and a Gross Misdemeanor count of Obstructing the Legal Process.
