A Waterville man is killed in a Rice County crash early this morning.

The State Patrol says 27-year-old William Potter was killed when the Buick he was driving east on Highway 60 near Faribault and was struck by a westbound Dodge Caravan that drifted over the centerline.

The Caravan driver, 40-year-old Andrew Joseph Stein of Cannon Falls, was critically injured in the crash. He has been hospitalized at St. Mary’s Rochester with what the state patrol calls life-threatening injuries. The patrol says he was wearing a seatbelt.

Potter was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Patrol says he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The state patrol says its unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
