A short, brief detour on the 7th Street section of Highway 4 in St. James will be put in place beginning Monday, so Minnesota Department of Transportation crew can replace a few concrete panels and make repairs.

Drivers will be diverted on 11th Street to 1st Avenue for about 5 days. MnDOT officials say the corrective work is part of the Highway 4 construction from last season.

Highway 4 north of downtown remains closed from 8th Avenue North to 11th Avenue North and drivers are detoured to Watonwan County Road 56 (1st Avenue South) and County Road 55 until late October. MnDOT says the project experienced delays with the record rains that fell while working on underground utilities.

The work that remains in this section includes concrete and asphalt roadway and sidewalk paving.

Construction work will be substantially complete at the end of the 2018 construction season, with some cleanup work scheduled in 2019.

The total project cost is $15,700,000.
