A couple of weekend break-ins have prompted Mankato Police to remind people to take steps to keep their valuables safe.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel.

In one burglary, Commander Dan Schisel said someone got into a home through an unlocked door and stole items from a woman’s purse.

He suggested putting purses, wallets, or other things of value away from the entrance to the home. “Just make sure you’re putting that away in a closet or somewhere that it’s out of sight,” Schisel said.

And he added that people should always secure the home before bed and, “I would encourage you to lock that door.”
