Three major meat-processing plants have been closed due to a number of employees contracting the COVID-19 virus. When will those plants re-open? The question was asked of Minnesota representative Colin Peterson in a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the JBS Facility in Worthington.
“The Ag secretary said this morning their number one priority is to open (the JBS facility in Worthington), the plant in Sioux Falls and the plant in Waterloo,” said Peterson. “The primary condition for re-opening is that the workers are going to be safe heading back into that environment.”
Peterson says the facilities won’t be able to operate like they did before but it’s important to get the facilities back up and running as soon as possible. President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday saying processing facilities need to be open under the defense production act.
