Conferees from the House and Senate will have less than a month to finalize the 2018 Farm Bill before current legislation expires.

House Ranking Member Collin Peterson says they still need to work out major differences on the SNAP food assistance program and conservation.

“It’s not going to be easy, but it can be done. People are just going to have to compromise.”

When asked if they could complete the new farm bill by September 30th, Peterson said, “That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

The Farm Bill conference committee will hold its first meeting September 5th.
