By |2021-05-06T07:59:07-05:00May 6th, 2021|

If you're still shopping for Mother's Day, time is running out.  But this might help if you need something last-minute.  Someone polled over 2,000 moms and asked them what they'd actually ENJOY getting as a gift.  Here are the top ten . . . A card.  43% of moms said they'd love to get one.  That doesn't mean they'll be thrilled with JUST a card.  But in general, moms do like getting them. Flowers. Doing something with the family.  Like dinner, or going somewhere outdoors. A keepsake.  So something sentimental, like a framed photo that's engraved. Chocolate. Something homemade.  Especially moms [...]

 Today is Cinco de Mayo

By |2021-05-05T08:04:53-05:00May 5th, 2021|

Today is Cinco de Mayo . . . and it's really the first party holiday since huge numbers of people got the vaccine.  So I'm thinking LOTS of people are going to want to live it up today . . . even if they don't know WHY they're living it up. A survey just asked people what Cinco de Mayo is actually about.  And only 10% of people knew the correct answer:  Celebrating a major Mexican battle win.  The victory was over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. 39% of people thought Cinco de Mayo was [...]

Print The Type of French Fry Each State Is Oddly Obsessed With

By |2021-05-04T08:02:07-05:00May 4th, 2021|

Is there a WRONG way to fry potatoes?  Maybe not, but we do have our preferences.  Someone looked at Google Trends and found the type of French fry each state is oddly obsessed with.  And there's a TIE for first place . . . Waffle fries got 12 states.  (Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.) Cheese fries also got 12 states.  I guess shape doesn't matter as long as there's cheese on there.  (Alabama, California, Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Texas.) Tater tots are [...]

Today is National Honesty Day.  And we're gonna celebrate it the right way:  With a survey where clearly a ton of people lied.  The survey asked people how often they tell lies. And the top answer is . . . NEVER.  27% of people say they never lie.  That is a lie. 18% of people say they lie once a year or less.  That's also a lie.  And another 18% say they lie a couple of times a month. On the other end of things, 6% of people say they tell around one lie a day, and 6% say they tell [...]

Rude Things You Shouldn’t Be Doing at the Grocery Store

By |2021-04-29T07:41:21-05:00April 29th, 2021|

A lot of people have been getting groceries delivered during COVID.  So some of us may have forgotten our grocery store manners.  Here are six tips: Don't leave your cart in the middle of the parking lot.  It blocks parking spaces, and it's just annoying.  Take the extra 30 seconds to return it. Don't leave the checkout line to go grab another item.  If the line is three people deep and you're still waiting, fine.  But once you're checking out, you can't leave. Don't block the aisle with your cart.  Move it to the side so other people can get by.  [...]

One Out of Every Seven Things You Say Is Gossip

By |2021-04-29T07:35:52-05:00April 29th, 2021|

There's no amount of social distancing that can keep us from our one true love:  Talking about other people when they're not around. A new study out of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire found that about 14% of our conversations every day are gossip . . . even today, with lots of conversations happening over Zoom.  That means one out of every seven things you say is gossip. But . . . the research found not all gossip is necessarily BAD.  Most of our gossip isn't negative . . . it's neutral.  And that's because most of the time, our goal [...]

Five Signs You’re at a Bad Pizza Place

By |2021-04-28T15:53:30-05:00April 28th, 2021|

Here are five signs you're at a bad pizza place . . . It's super cheap.  Some places opt for quantity over quality, which is fine.  Just know you're probably not getting the BEST pizza. The crust looks too pale.  The crust is really important.  So don't settle on a place where you always eat the main part of the pizza but toss the crusts. Ask what type of flour they use.  If it's "bleached" or "bromated," that's a bad sign.  Potassium bromate is a food additive used to make the crust rise.  And it's banned in some countries because it's [...]
